“And when he came to the place where the wild things are they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
til Max said ‘BE STILL!’
and tamed them with the magic trick…”
Where the Wild Things Are
Maurice Sendak
1963
It just kind of just dawned on me one day: we can all feel like, and appear to be, these large, bulbous, scary creatures who throw tantrums every now and then, holding on to so much experience and trauma and emotion. All the while just looking for a space to reel that all in, and then… let it go. A space where we can learn to soften our big hearts so that we can be better, stronger, calmer creatures.
And as Max got to know the Wild Things, and as the Wild Things got to know Max, they found a connection in a space where they could find joy and a bit of peace. Until the smell of Max’s dinner called him back home, and that’s when it all ended lol.

KAREN AGATON
Owner & Founder, Calm Creature Studio
Certified Yoga Instructor & Usui Reiki Level 2 Practitioner
Karen was introduced to yoga in 2008 through a friend with a yoga Groupon. On that fateful day, she attended her first and last Bikram class. She quickly learned that this style of yoga wasn’t for her, but enjoyed the community experience of a group class, and for the next 10+ years would take classes of different styles and methods. Some of her most memorable class experiences were through Restorative Yoga because of the minimal effort required to feel calm and relaxed, and the intentionality behind each cue and pose. This inspired her to share her love for Restorative and Yin yoga in a modern world where burnout and hustle mentality is rewarded.
Karen is a certified yoga teacher (through Sundeep Tiyagi and Courtney Bruce) and Level 2 Reiki practitioner (through Carol Righton) with over 500 hours of teaching experience specializing in Restorative and Yin yoga. She completed her 200 Hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training at Sheridan College and continues to educate herself through continuing education yoga programs and the matters that affect underserved communities in the wellness space.
